The European Solar Command (abbreviated EUROSOLCOM) is an international, pan-solar military organization that governs the defense and administration of European and former-European colonies in the Outer Solar System. EUROSOLCOM is composed of the space-borne military forces of its member nations, operating under a single umbrella and command. Notable members include the Union of Fennoscandia, European Federation, United Kingdom, Union of Europa, Republic of Ganymede, and the Planet-State of Titan. It is one of the oldest military alliances in history, going on for two hundred years and counting.
The European Solar Command was formed as an extension of the North Sea Organization during the Sino-American Pan-Solar Conflict, also known as the War in Heaven.
The colonization of the outer system planets allowed Fennoscandians, Europeans, and Brits unfettered access to the valuable resources of the Asteroid belt and planetary systems of Saturn and Jupiter, but their relative isolation left them vulnerable to a crippling blockade by Columbian-Brazilian colonial forces operating out of Mars and the Asteroid Belt.
As a response to their growing involvement on the Chinese side of the war, the nations of the North Sea Organization formed EUROSOLCOM as a means to centrally organize their military forces against the North-South American Alliance.
After the war, EUROSOLCOM became the pre-eminent military organization in the outer solar system, and to this day ensures the security and sovereignty of its member-nations.
EUROSOLCOM was instrumental in the negotiation of peaceful independence agreements during the Years of Liberty, a period of unrest and civil strife in the outer systems which resulted in the independence of most European, Fennoscandian, and British colonies.
With the last century being the most peaceful and prosperous in pan-solar history, many political theorists have begun to argue that EUROSOLCOM is losing its purpose as an organization - with the status-quo of the so-called "Pax Solarum" upheld by the nations of Solar Commerce Organization, the eye-watering defense spending and militarization of the Solar System during the 22nd-23rd century is largely a historical footnote, and the rolls of EUROSOLCOM steadily decline as its member nations begin to reorganize their militaries under domestic command structures.
